17-year-old shot, killed by Police in playground stand-off identified

Austin Police on Friday received an early morning call that Anthoneil Williams II was near a park in Braden Lane with what appeared to be a gun. Minutes later what occurred was shots fired by police and a body that bared no weapon, confirmed by his father on Monday,

Police Chief Lisa Davis explained 911 footage as “suicide by police’” with search for firearm arriving to no item found other than a water bottle which was what he continued to move forward to through altercation and the call arriving from the young black male himself according to police dashboard.

The 911 phone call happened at 3:51 a.m. and by 4:25 a.m. the young teenager was pronounced dead near Dessau Road. Body cam footage released showed three officers, Alexis Cruz, Jake Pitcher and Avery Zucchi, shouting for the teenager, 17-year-old, Black male, to put his hands up explained Davis.

On Saturday, neighbors held a vigil for the young teenager killed on cop duty. The event was led by local activist groups where many honored the life of the young boy by calling for transparency and accountability.

Austin Justice Coalition Founder Chas Moore spoke a day prior to the vigil requesting for accountability for what he said was a sheer mental health response and questioning Davis calling what happened a “suicide.”
