Taye Diggs ask about neighborhood Karen in Austin HBCU parking dispute

Actor Taye Diggs is talking about historically Black college and university Huston-Tillotson University, located in Austin, Texas, following a dispute that is getting the attention of other passersby and neighborhood residents as a white couple has been caught leaving notes on cars and injustice towards students parking legally near their home located on nineth street of East Austin, a historical black neighborhood.

In a video posted last week by Bri, Instagram @briii.likethecheese, a student at Tillotson, who also parks in the area is confronting the issue, “Ya’ll know it’s legal to park here, right,” the HBCU student is heard telling the couple, who are standing on their property. What follows is the residents yelling out, “We paid 1.5 million for our house, Ya’ll graduation rate is 25 percent.” In addition, before the video ends the white woman threatens to call the cops, along with shouting out,” This is our neighborhood.”

Diggs called out the woman, referring to her in a inquiry as Karen — a term that describes a woman, usually white who is seen as rude – a same name addressed to her in the video. Bri refers to the woman as Karen who replied angrily to her arrival and in a response to the couple’s attitude towards the undergraduates parking near their home.

Prior to Diggs response to the Fox 7 Austin video, students and community residents have been scene protesting the couple with posters for days reading such as, “My Black is Beautiful…Black Education Matters,” along with chanting “You bought a house, not our history.”
